10 Years Ago We Failed Miserably, Made ALL The Mistakes
We had the hot team, amazing press, and an app getting crazy download numbers. Our vision was revolutionary: create systems that learn from user behavior to continuously improve experiences, ultimately building technology that could quantify the good done in the world.
Then our database started crashing.
We couldn't keep our app working at scale. As the founder, I had made a horrible mistake. I thought I knew enough. I had sold companies before, attracted funding multiple times, studied entrepreneurship, even participated in pre-IPO Mezzanine Financing Due Diligence for major banks. None of that mattered. I was out of my depth. The tech was over my head.
We had to shut down the Beta Test. We lost talent, users, momentum, and had spent the money we needed to redesign the database on marketing our "success." That failure in 2016 became our greatest teacher.
What We Learned from Rock Bottom
That failure forced me to start truly learning—diving deep into coding, studying with thought leaders in ML & AI, eating the humble pie that entrepreneurship serves. We've been researching database security, technology responsibility, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence since 2016.
